About Us

A government medical college was established in the small town of Ambajogai, Beed district, with a vision that would transform rural healthcare across India. On 28th October 1975, Late Shri Shankarraoji Chavan, then Chief Minister of Maharashtra, inaugurated this pioneering institution and named it Swami Ramanand Teerth Rural Medical College—the first rural medical college in Asia. This was a dream realized for the visionary Founder Dean, Dr. Venkatrao Dawale, FRCS, whose commitment to rural medical education laid the foundation for generations of healers. From its humble beginning with an intake of 50 students, SRTR has grown to admit 150 undergraduate students annually, alongside a flourishing array of postgraduate programs and a legacy of thousands of doctors who have carried the torch of service to Rural Bharat. This year marks 50 glorious years of SRTR Medical College—a milestone not just in time, but in impact. We, the alumni, return not merely to a campus, but to a feeling, a memory, a moment that shaped our lives. As the college completes 50 years in 2025, we—the alumni—gather to cherish memories, reconnect with our mentors and peers, and celebrate the legacy that shaped our lives and careers. This meet is more than a reunion—it is a pilgrimage to our roots, a celebration of the spirit that made us doctors, and a promise to carry forward the legacy of service, humility, and excellence.
